Autographed by lighthouse keeper Robert T. Sterling

This extraordinary book is autographed by its author, Robert Thayer Sterling who was also the assistant keeper at Portland Head Lighthouse from 1928 to 1944 and then he became the head keeper in 1944 until his retirement in 1946. It is extremely rare to have a book of this condition autographed by the author who was also a keeper at one of the most famous lighthouses in the world. This is a third edition, published in 1938, and it was autographed in 1940.Lighthouse Digest certifies the authenticity of the autograph. It is 234 pages long with many historic photos. This copy has its original dust jacket, which is hard to find on autographed copies of this book. The dust jacket is in fair to good condition, and has been covered for lasting protection. It was written at a time when keeper Sterling was still a lighthouse keeper and the government gave him special permission to travel the Maine coast to collect the stories and photos for this book. Much of what he wrote and saved for future generations was the first time many of these stories had ever been written and some of photos of the people involved were rare, even for that time. The overall condition of the book is good. This autographed copy would make an excellent addition to the library of any astute lighthouse collector. As a collectible antique autographed book it is being sold as-is with no return.
