Description

This set of four maritime postage stamps that were released in 1998 and feature three lighthouses and two buoys. One stamp features the Phares Des Mamelles, which is on the Cape Verde Peninsula. It is considered the most powerful light in Africa. We do not have information on the other lights or aids to navigation. Senegal is a country on Africa’s west coast known for its French colonial heritage and natural attractions. It is the westernmost country in the mainland of the Old World or Eurafrasia[ and owes its name to the Sénégal River that borders it to the east and north. The capital city of Dakar features the ancient Médina district and esteemed Musée Théodore Monod, displaying African art. Dakar is also known for its nightlife and native music. Saint-Louis, formerly the capital of French West Africa, is known for the colonial architecture in its old town. Most Senegalese are Sunni Muslims with Sufi influences and French is the official language. These stamps are hard to find and would make a wonderful addition to any lighthouse, maritime of Africa collection.
