Description
This book by Reilly Platten Sharp is part of the series of Images of America books by Arcadia Publishing. The book is more about the community of Barnegat Light, New Jersey than it is about the actual Barnegat Lighthouse. However, because the Barnegat Lighthouse is such a integral part of the community of the same name, any book about the lighthouse would have to include historic photos of the area surrounding the lighthouse. And this book does just that. The wonderful selection of photos used in the book come from 3,000 recently digitized and restored images in the collection of the Barnegat Light Historical Society and Museum and for anyone who loves history, each one is exciting. Most people who visit Barnegat Lighthouse today don’t know of the beautiful, mansion-like keeper’s house that once stood here, or life-saving station, or the epic battle fought to save the abandoned 172-foot tall tower from collapse due to erosion.
