This is a former university library copy, brown cloth hard cover, gilt title lettering on spine plate, engravings inside. The inside cover spine is coming loose, but can easily be professionally repaired. This can be expected in books that are over 125 years old. The edges of the cover are worn, the inside cover pages are fraying and the interior page are browning at the edges. The book is about the life of famous civil engineer Robert Stevenson (1772-1850), written by his son, David Stevenson (1815-1886). Stevenson is one of the most famous engineers in world history who was responsible for building some of the worlds most famous lighthouses at almost impossible locations especially the Bell Rock Lighthouse. He was appointed to the Lighthouse Board in 1797.
This book was reprinted in 2008 and 2012 and also offered as a print on demand book. However, this is an extremely rare and highly collectible First Edition copy that will surely increase in value over time. Recent copies have, depending on condition, when offered for sale, have been very expensive. We have priced this copy so that it can be afforded by a discerning lighthouse collector.
