The American Light-House Guide: With Sailing Directions for the Use of The Mariner, 1845 by Robert Mills, P.A. Engineer and architect, member of the National Institute, City of Washington published by Wm. M. Morrison. First published in 1832 as THE AMERICAN PHAROS, and is rated by many as the most important early American title on lighthouses. Architect Robert Mills designed the Washington Monument and numerous lighthouses, as well. The book says it is founded on the official reports received at the Treasury Department of the United States with a general view of the coast from the St. Lawrence to the Rio Del Norte, including an account of the lights on the Gulf of Mexico, Caribbean Sea and the South American Atlantic Coast and also sailing directions for the Gulf and River St. Lawrence according to reports from the Trinity Board of Quebec. The cover and first page have become detached from the spine and the cover shows major ageing, but could be professionally repaired and restored. The pages show some foxing, but otherwise in good condition, considering the book is nearly 170 years old. This would make a great addition to the collection of the discerning collector or lighthouse museum. It is an actual slice of American lighthouse history. Because this is a rare and collectible book, it is sold as is with no return.
